A close friend of mine kept this story from Seventeen magazine a few years ago. My friend was a young mother, and will do anything in this world to not have her daughter's repeat the cycle or forget the importance of education over relationships in school. This goes for the boys, too. Be smart! Respectful. Know and own your worth....Please share this with your girls, and your girls!!!....
"Living on your own, without parental supervision, is probably the best and worst part of college. It's obviously awesome because you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, but like Spiderman's father said, "with great power comes great responsibility." The power to do things on a whim carries pretty hefty consequences. For some, the consequences mean potentially shattering the world of another girl.
A girl that I know (let's call her Kelly to protect her privacy) has been hooking up with one of her guy friends, who has a girlfriend back home (hook-up = kissing in my book). Their yearlong relationship is apparently going strong, and Facebook, clearly the most reliable resource, confirms their "in a relationship" status.
Also, Kelly doesn't want her other guy friends to know of her hooking up constantly with this guy, because she's afraid they'll look down on her or think less of her. Nobody knows of this situation but me, and apparently Kelly keeps going back to him because he is a great kisser-the best she's ever experienced! Now, I'm not saying that justifies her actions, but he's also contributing to the problem. Kelly may take the opportunity to kiss him, and enjoy it in her hedonistic pursuit of pleasure, but he could easily stop her.
I think this situation can shed some light on the entangling drama involved with "hooking up" with guy friends, or even random strangers. In college, the chance for you to kiss a guy are a dime a dozen. A friend of mine was telling me about a fraternity that told a girl never to come back again to their frat parties because she had hooked up with too many of the frat brothers! Now
that is embarrassing.
It's okay to be curious, but keep your self-respect in check. Remember, your body is a temple and any who seeks to desecrate it shall not have permission to enter ☺. Kelly is stuck in a situation where no one can find out about their hooking up-she risks losing her guy friends' respect and being known as the girl that the boyfriend cheated on his girlfriend with.
Remember to stay by your morals and sense of self-pride in college. It'll truly lesson the drama that you can't afford to pile on top of all the work from your classes!"
